Corridors of Power

Friday, August 16, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
An MP who appeared before a parliamentary committee last week and sensationally claimed that drug trafficking may be linked to the JKIA fire has suddenly gone 'missing' in that he is not picking up his colleagues' calls to get him to provide more information on his claims. It is also unlike him to absent himself from Parliament event though the National Assembly is on recess. Whatever his reasons for becoming 'mteja', (not available) Parliament is awash with all manner of speculation!

Turkana governor Josephat Nanok has found himself in unfamiliar territory. The man has become quite popular with Nairobi socialites and wannabes who all want to be seen with the tall, slender and dark governor who in the past they would have snubbed. Our resident cynic believe that the fact that oil deposits have been found in his county may add to Nanok's attractiveness hence the attention paid to him during a recent evening function. And it might not have escaped the National Cohesion and Integration boss Mzalendo Kibunjia who drew parallels between the manner in which successive governments have treated the county to the biblical parable about the stone that was rejected by the builders which became the head cornerstone.

Kabete MP John Muchai who is also the deputy secretary general of COTU is not known to be an extravagant man like his trade unionist colleague and boss Francis Atwoli who is not averse to blinking and all manner of ostentatiousness. Anyway, Muchai, like every Kenyan who loves a deal, was last Friday spotted at Pizza Inn at Valley Arcade waiting patiently to take delivery of his pizza. The outlet has a tradition of rewarding its clients with a buy-on-get-one-free promotion. And no, Muchai's order was not for the large pizza but a small one— the one that is just enough for one person.
