Corridors of Power

The zeal and hung-ho attitude adopted by a Cabinet Secretary soon after his appointment has fizzled out after he was met with cold resistance from the people he is working with in the ministry. The man has become unpopular after he accused some of his senior officers of being lazy and unilaterally cancelled the foreign trip of two directors saying the trips would not bring any value to the core services provided by the ministry. But it seems his 'private sector' attitude is permeating to the junior staff who with alacrity, deducted an imprest he had taken for a foreign trip but which he had not accounted for within the specified time.

It came as a surprise to many of the fire fighting teams who responded to the JKIA inferno only to be met with some senior KAA who not only looked confused and sleepy but smelt as if they were emerging from a brewery.

It seems cosy relation between some cops in Eastlands and known criminal gangsters is so cosy that the police blatantly lie to the courts if and when any of the known gangsters appear in court. More often than not, the police prosecutors will claim the suspect has no criminal record even though the individual has a criminal record as long as one's hand.

The struggle between the old guard and the young turks for control of ODM has been festering under the radar for sometime. A glimpse of this came out in the open last week when two MPS had a bitter exchange when the younger of the two announced his intention to go for the top party seat. The young MP dismissed offhandedly as a 'troublesome noisemaker" with the older MP casting aspersion on his academic qualifications.
