Corridors of Power

A senior official at Deputy President William Ruto's office was given a dressing down by one of the Cabinet Secretaries last week. The officer had presumed to write to the Cabinet Secretary requesting that he be given a brief on the status of work in the ministry since the Jubilee Cabinet was appointed. The Cabinet secretary ignored the letter and instead called the officer to remind him that she was only answerable to the President and such a request from the official was not only an attempt to belittle her but was way above his pay grade!!

A senior police officer in Vihiga has found himself in a pickle when he ordered the release of a vehicle that had been impounded for ferrying litres of chang'aa. Our moles tell us the vehicle was impounded ferrying the illegal brew along the Luanda/ Busia highway. Less than two hours later, the vehicle was released at the orders of the senior cop. It seems the delivery of some Sh60,000 in cash from the owner of the vehicle proved irresistible to the top cop.

Patrons of a few pubs in Nairobi’s Doonholm estate were shocked by the behavior of an MP from Nakuru County who went out of his way to shout at the top of his voice reminding patrons that he is an MP. This fact may have been overlooked some of the patrons who were too deep into their cups. But one of them who could no longer stomach the loud MP asked why he was not behaving as a Mheshimiwa (honorable).

A second term MP has refused to travel to his constituency choosing to remain the city during the duration of the recess that ends in the first week of September. The man was involved in a heated exchange with his colleagues on Thursday last week, claiming the recess was a waste of the MPs’ valuable time. He said he has not made the money to go and spend in the constituency.
