LOBBYING for nominations to Parliament in the United Republican Party has intensified. This follows URP's poorer-than-expected performance in the general election.
The party had anticipated winning at least 100 parliamentary seats, which would have guaranteed it more nomination slots. Yesterday, the Star learnt that some of those whose names had been forwarded to IEBC were asked to drop their demands.
On Wednesday, Nairobi politician Samuel Mburu, who had been listed as a parliamentary nominee by the party, stepped down. Mburu wrote to the party asking that he be removed from the list to pave way for more women to be nominated.
Sources said Violet Chesang, who had applied for parliamentary nominee, has also been asked to step down and promised another post. This is that the party can accommodate applicants from the disabled and special interest category.
Bernard Kemboi from Elgeiyo Marakwet county and David ole Sankok from Narok are the front runners for the disabled nominees for parliament and senate respectively.
