Kidero's Rolls Royce

NAIROBI governor Evans Kidero was sworn in yesterday.
Kidero and his wife Susan Mboya arrived at Uhuru Park at 10am, in a classic Rolls Royce, which was the ceremonial car for former Nairobi Mayor Nathan Kahara. The vintage car was donated to City Hall in the early 80s by Queen Elizabeth of England.
Justice Msagha Mbogholi administered the of office at 11.38am. Kidero's deputy, Jonathan Mweke was sworn in shortly after.
Kidero said he will restore order in the central business district and reduce congestion in Nairobi.
He said he will also solve the security problems the city faces and create employment opportunities.
"In broad terms, my efforts will be directed at initiating early and swift action towards realising our vision of a better city for better life. Similar efforts will be directed at increasing affordable food supply to the people of Nairobi and improving transportation and increasing energy supply to Nairobi and the national grid," Kidero said.
The ceremony was attended by Nairobi County Speaker Alex ole Magelo, Transition Authority chair Kinuthia Wamwangi, Nairobi County Commissioner Shadrack Mwadime, Interim County Secretary Lilian Ndegwa, members of the diplomatic corps, cabinet ministers and county representatives.
Kidero said the a lot of hard work is needed to make changes in Nairobi and residents should be reasdy to make personal sacrifices for the benefit of the city.
He paid special tribute to his campaign team and the youth, who he said were the secret behind his victory.
"My administration will be guided by core principles of our constitution and the related laws. I want to pledge my unwavering resolve to protect the Bill of Rights, promote the values of Leadership and Integrity  as enshrined in Chapter Six of our constitution and the Public Officer Ethics Act," Kidero said
 Prime Minister Raila Odinga told Kidero to work with the people he defeated in the elections. Raila said their input will help improve service delivery to both "omena and mbuta."
"Nairobi is an international hub, it is the face of Kenya and with the Cord manifesto requiring decentralisation of services, I challenge Governor Kidero to make education, security, health and jobs available so that the dreams of young Kenyans can youth come true," Raila said.
Peter Wanyande, a commissioner of the Constitution Implementation Commission said Kidero should make devolution work in accordance with the constitution.
