KENYA: Jubilee presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta reignited the ‘six-piece-voting’ debate when he called on Nyandarua residents to vote for TNA candidates in the coming elections.
While on a tour of Engineer and Njabini towns in Kinangop, Uhuru called on the electorate to make his government strong by voting in only TNA candidates.
He revisited the controversial 2007 elections noting that though Kibaki won he had a hard time running the government as he only had very few MPs.
“Under this constitution the president will have to work with Senators and MPs and I ask you to give me a strong TNA team,” he said amid cheers.
Uhuru who was accompanied by his running mate William Ruto dismissed the opinion polls terming them as biased and meant to favor come candidates.
Without mentioning names, Uhuru accused some media houses of trying to sway the public using manipulated polls.
“I urge you come out in large numbers on March 4 so that we can win this election in the first round and to the youths do not drink on that day,” he appealed.
He hit out at the PM Raila Odinga noting that Kenyans would have gained more from Kibaki leadership were it not for his complaints.
“Raila has noticed that he is losing despite the polls favoring him and has decided to use propaganda but this will not sway Kenyans,” he said.
On his part, Ruto regretted the 2007/08 violence that rocked the country saying that Kenyans should not allow a repeat of the same.
He said that if elected, the Jubilee alliance could address the issue of seeds and challenges facing farmers in the agriculture rich region.
“We are committed to improving the country’s economy and we ask Kenyans to give us a chance to serve them,” he said.
Ruto re-visited the threats issued to the CJ Willy Mutunga saying that the Jubilee alliance had nothing to do with it.
“Some of the people mentioned as having issued the threat come from CORD and it’s upon them to clear their name,” he said.
