Within hours of Pope Benedict XVI announcing his resignation, lightning struck St Peter's Basilica.
Pope Benedict has shocked a billion Roman Catholics around the world, and his closest advisers, by announcing that he will resign at the end of this month.
The Pope, who is 85 years old, has been the head of the Church since 2005.
It is remembered that in January 30, a seagull attacked a dove of peace released by Pope Benedict XVI from his window over St. Peter's Square in the Vatican.
The dove was eventually able to escape from the seagull.
