RIFT VALLEY; KENYA: Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi has advised voters to elect young people during the March 4 General Election.
Speaking in Eldama Ravine town, Baringo County, Gideon, who is running for Baringo County Senate, said time has come for generational change in politics.
“Those asking for leadership in Baringo under Kanu are below 48 years, therefore, this is the moment we need to witness generational change,” he said.
Gideon, who was accompanied by Baringo County governor aspirant Stanley Kiptis, appealed to the electorate to vote for him, saying he had what it takes to lead the county.
“I humbly request for your votes with an open and sincere heart, so that I partner with you in developing our county in the next five years,” he said.
Before addressing the political rally, the former Baringo Central legislator opened a Kanu office branch after a similar one was razed down during the 2008 post-election violence.
Forests protection
He also promised to spearhead forest protection, saying locals who have been responsible in its protection for years must benefit.
He further appealed for peaceful coexistence among communities before and even after March 4 elections.
On farming, Gideon said he would work with dairy farmers to ensure a milk processing plant is constructed to bring value addition to the product.
“A lot of milk comes from this region and I should not see any reason why we don’t have our own plant right here,” he told the farmers.
Kiptis and his running mate Simon Chelugui promised to stay away from confrontational campaigns and urged their supporters to maintain peace.
Kiptis promised to tackle poverty and illiteracy while his deputy warned against individuals attempting to remote control people of Baringo on the direction to take.
“As your governor, you will not hear us talk about personalities but the way we will solve problems affecting our people,” assured Kiptis.
