Kinango residents have been urged to be politically pro-active and register as voters.
Kenya National Congress leader Peter Kenneth told a leaders’ forum at Kinango Youth Hall, that the constituency was historically known for having the least number of voters despite its huge population.
“I am in the Planning ministry which is involved with the national census and I know Kinango residents do not vote. By not voting you are giving the leadership to someone you may not like,” said Mr Kenneth.
The presidential aspirant was speaking on his first meeting of his two-day tour of Kwale County.
Relaying his leadership success record in his Gatanga constituency, the assistant minister said Kwale people now had the opportunity at development if they elected good leaders.
He praised former Forestry permanent secretary Mohammed Mwachai for leaving his high-profile job to lead his people.
Mr Mwachai, who made his first official appearance in the race for Kwale governor yesterday, said he would vie on a KNC ticket.
Another former permanent secretary, Mr Kombe Mwero, will vie for senator’s seat on the party’s ticket.
“Mr Mwero is well informed on land matters ... it is now up to you to give him an opportunity to solve your problems,” said Mr Kenneth, adding that Kenya lacked development-oriented leadership.
The Gatanga MP promised to build the country’s economy on tourism and infrastructure, food security and industrialisation if he wins the presidency in next year’s elections.
