ODM makes harvest from Kanu, Wiper, UDF and FORD-K parties‏

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) campaign got a boost today when officials from several political parties defected to join the party.

Former Ntonyiri Member of Parliament, Hon. Maoka Maore officially ditched KANU to join the Orange party, which he has been closely associated with lately. Mr. Maore served as the Ntonyiri legislator from 1992 to 2007 when he lost his seat Ntoitha N’Muthiaru of PNU.

Former Vice Chancellor of Jomo Kenyatta University of Science & Technology, Prof. Ratemo Michieka, also joined ODM, on whose ticket he will vie for an elective post in Gusiiland.

Also joining ODM was the immediate former Ford-Kenya Vice Chairperson in charge of women affairs, Ms. Happy Gloria Akhayalu. She quit the party to join ODM and plans to contest Women Representative seat at Busia County. She is currently the Secretary, Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization, Western province branch.

Also joining the ODM was the former Mayor of Mumias Municipal Council, Mrs. Caroline Waluchio. Waluchio was the chairperson of Ford-K, Mumias branch. She will be vying for the seat of the Vihiga County Women Representative.

Mrs. Dorah Ingolo ditched the UDF party to join ODM from which she will battle for the Vihiga County Women Representative’s seat. Also ditching UDF for ODM was Mr. Patrick Chungani, the KNUT Kakamega County Chairman. Mr. Chungani intends to vie for the Shinyalu Parliamentary seat on the ODM ticket.

Chungani moved into the Orange party along with the Secretary of KNUT Kakamega Branch, Mr. John Wesonga, who will vie for the Mumias West parliamentary seat.

Mr. Alfred Kivindyo who was a NEC member of the Wiper party, also abandoned his party for the ODM.

Receiving the defectors at Orange House, ODM Secretary-General, Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, said he was delighted to have such men and women of stature in ODM, adding that the Orange party was the strongest in Kenya.

Prof. Nyong’o said ODM was confident of clinching the presidency in the March 4, 2013 general election. He urged other politicians wishing to vie for various seats in the elections to join ODM, which he said will conduct free, fair and transparent nominations.

Prof. Nyong’o invited all the ODM aspirants for the seats of Governor, Senate, MP and Women Representative who had applied to the party through expressions of interest to the aspirants’ forum at Bomas of Kenya next Wednesday. He said also that the meeting was open to those who have not expressed their interests in the mentioned seats from where they will express their interests.
