Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi has promised to tackle insecurity, joblessness and poverty in urban areas if he wins the presidency next year.
The three challenges, said the United Democratic Forum presidential aspirant, were behind the divisions and tension which made it difficult for Kenya to achieve its full economic potential.
“I stand for peace, unity and prosperity of Kenyans. Politicians will come and tell you how they will build roads, hospitals and create employment but without peace all these promises cannot be achieved. Elect leaders who can reconcile Kenyans and stand for peace”, he said at a rally in Soweto, Nairobi.
He prayed that Kenyans would to elect leaders to serve them diligently without any bias. “Ask yourself; am I voting for my tribe, my brother, my religion or for a Kenyan leader? I know you have a tribe but your sacred duty at the next elections is to elect leaders who will serve Kenyans without any tribal, regional or religious bias, ” he said.
The DPM was on a tour of several estates in Eastlands where he emphasised the need for voters to be guided by the desire to give the country good leadership that would implement the Constitution and renew the push for a better society.
Mr Mudavadi told residents of Sinai, Lunga Lunga, Kayaba and Commercial slums that a UDF government would stand for equitable distribution of resources to propel uniform development and bridge the gap between the rich and poor.
Alliances not ‘worrying’ him
He said at Sinai that those meeting to form alliances ahead of the elections were free to do so. (READ:Why a Raila Ruto alliance strikes fear)
“Nobody should get worried because of reports in the media that some people are meeting to form alliances because UDF is strong and will emerge the winner,” he reiterated.
The DPM urged Kenyans to support the police to ensure that there was peace before and after the elections. Ikolomani MP Boni Khalwale urged voters to elect Mr Mudavadi, arguing that he was the only qualified aspirant to reconcile the country.
“If Musalia loses at the next elections, peace has lost,” said Dr Khalwale.
