CHAIR talks of ‘SERIOUS REPERCUSSIONS’ if voter registration ABORTS

Wednesday, the 24th of October 2012 -Chairman of the Independent Boundaries and Elections Commission (IEBC) Isaack Hassan has said that there will be ‘serious repercussions’ if voter registration doesn't kick off on November 14th as scheduled;

“We need to have the kits as soon as possible. We need to start voter registration in November or there will be serious repercussions,” said Isaack.

Isaack gave that warning at a press conference a few minutes ago that was also attended by Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa, Lands Minister James Orengo and Finance PS Joseph Kinywa.

All speakers at the press conference expressed confidence that BVR kits will arrive in the country on November 5th.

Isaack’s reticence is understandable given that the voter registration has now faced several delays after being originally being penciled in for September. The start of the exercise was then moved to November 4th before being postponed again because of the delay of acquisition of BVR kits.
