The National Alliance (TNA) party is expected to set its date for
nomination of aspirants for the by-elections in Kajiado, Kangema, and Ndhiwa
this Saturday.
This came as TNA Kangema parliamentary aspirants on Tuesday met to
iron out claims that one of them was being favoured.
On Wednesday, TNA secretary-general Onyango
Oloo confirmed the National Organising Board would meet on Saturday to set the
date for nominations. He said TNA would field candidates in the three
constituencies where by-elections would be held – Kajiado North, Ndhiwa
and Kangema.Speaking to The Standard on phone, Oloo said the nomination process
would be fair and transparent. He noted that there was no “preferred candidate”
in any of the three constituencies.
“Some candidates are claiming that they are close to party leader
Uhuru Kenyatta and will win automatic nomination. Candidates will be selected
by voters and not Uhuru,” he said. Kangema aspirants had travelled to Nairobi
with hopes of meeting the DPM but instead met Nairobi Metropolitan minister
Jamleck Kamau, who assured them of fair nominations. Only nine aspirants
attended the Nairobi meeting.
On Sunday, the Cabinet minister held a meeting at General Kago
stadium where all the ten aspirants were given a
TNA contenders in Kajiado North were yesterday in Kitengela,
Isinya and Kajiado doing road shows to popularise themselves and their party.
They included Joseph Manje, Moses ole Sakuda and Francis Gitau. All the
candidates were given a chance to address the crowds in all the major towns.
The winner in TNA nomination will fight it out with Salaine Kashorda of UDF,
Solomon Kinyanjui of PNU and David Parseina of URP as well as ODM candidate.
