Safina Party is opposing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's move to revert to the use of the manual voter registration. Safina director of elections John Wamagata yesterday said the use of manual registration might cause problems like the ones witnessed after the 2007 general elections. Wamagata asked the IEBC to do all things possible to ensure that biometric voter registration is used instead. “We support the BVR. The IEBC should ensure that the tender is reissued but in a more transparent manner,” Wamagata said. He was speaking after the party’s meeting of officials from the Coast to discuss election issues and the party’s way forward. John Kanyiri, the party’s Mombasa county coordinator urged the IEBC to reconsider their decision to terminate the process of acquiring the BVR kits.
