Kanu has cleared two candidates to vie for the Ndhiwa and Kajiado North parliamentary seats in the September by-elections.
Secretary-general Nick Salat and vice-chairman Shadrack Manga issued nomination certificates to Tom Otieno Onyango to contest the Ndhiwa parliamentary by-election while Captain Paul Gichinga is to fly the party’s flag in Kajiado North.
The independence party also cleared candidates for various civic seats including Machakos, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega and Siaya Counties.
“People thought Kanu would not be able to field candidates but we are sure and confident we will win the seats,” Mr Manga told journalists at the party headquarters in Nairobi Wednesday.
Mr Salat and Mr Manga said voters should differentiate between national and tribal parties in the by-elections adding that Kanu is keen to regain its lost glory.
The two officials called for peaceful campaigns and adherence to the Political Parties Act and the Elections Act by all aspirants.
Mr Onyango is the Ndhiwa Kanu branch chairman while Capt Gichinga is a pilot working with a local airline.
The Kanu candidates will square it out with others for the parliamentary seats that fell vacant following the death of Internal Security minister George Saitoti and his assistant Orwa Ojodeh in a plane crash in June.
