Friday August 10, 2012 - Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga got a reprieve on Thursday, after a High Court Judge granted him permission to divorce his estranged wife Prof Beverle Michele Lax.
Judge GBM Kariuki granted him divorce from his estranged wife on grounds of cruelty.
In his divorce petition, Dr Mutunga had accused Lax of treating him with cruelty since they couple got married in 2000.
Mutunga married Lax in July, 20, 2000 in San Mateo in the US and he filed for divorce on December 16, 2009.
In his application Mutunga described Prof Lax as a person of “ungoverned temper who physically and verbally abused him”
He also said that his estranged wife allegedly refereed to Mutunga’s daughter and son from his previous marriage as parasites yet she new calling them names caused him immense pain and torture.
The CJ told the court that Lax destroyed his academic thesis (the only copy) which touched on Landlord/ Tenant relationship in Kenya.
