A bar in Siaya is in the brink of collapse after a Bishop disappeared with more than Sh70,000 of its collection. Umidha bar owner, Charles Wambua, said the bishop took advantage of his three-day absence and has brought operations to a halt. The bishop was a cashier at the bar. Wambua said he had travelled to his rural home on Monday.
He tried to call the bishop on Wednesday to find out how the business was holding on. “This raised suspicion,” Wambua said. He said he was forced to travel back but upon arrival was shocked to find the bishop, who heads a church in Hawinga, missing. Wambua told the press yesterday the bishop had worked for more than eight years as his cashier and he had grown to trust him.
The proprietor added that the bishop had watched over the business during the post election violence when he was forced to go back to his ancestral home. “The bishop used to transact business as usual and preach on Saturday, an issue which did not bother me until now,” Wambua explained. Revelers were yesterday left wondering after Wambua boldly told them that he could not stock enough Guinness beer since Pinto disappeared with a huge chunk of money. Wambua said he was deliberating whether to report the matter to the police since he did not believe a friend of more than eight years could do such a thing even after engaging in other serious deals with him.
