Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi has said there is democracy in United Democratic Front (UDF) party and there would be free and fair nominations.
He assured that the principle of fair nomination is embedded in the party’s constitution.
“In this respect and contrary to the wishes of my detractors, my sojourn has been to seek for a party that offers competition,” Mudavadi said. He urged Kenyans to join the party, which he predicted would form the next government.
Mudavadi was speaking when he officially opened UDF offices in Lavington, Nairobi on Thursday.
MPs Jeremiah Kioni, Nderitu Mureithi, Boni Khalwale, George Nyamweya, Abdikadir Mohamed, George Khaniri, Justus Kizito, Manyala Keya and Soita Shitanda and former MPs Mukhisa Kituyi and Andrew Ligale were present.
UDF chairman Hassan Osman said the party has already opened offices in 32 counties.
“In the next one-and-a-half months we will have offices in all the 47 counties,” Mr Osman said.
Mudavadi urged Kenyans to join UDF, saying this will save them from parties that exist on the basis of personality, regional or ethnic brand recognition.
“I want to unite Kenyans in the 47 counties to chart a new peaceful and prosperous path for Kenya. Let us take the lessons we have learnt, no matter how bitter and resolve to do things differently,” he said.
