Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua now wants President Kibaki to revoke appointment of County Commissioners to make the hiring open and competitive.
Speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday, Ms Karua said it was against the spirit of the new Constitution for the President to handpick commissioners long before Kenyans elected governors.
“By appointing commissioners on his own long before the election of governors, the President is clearly sending wrong signals, which make the work of the two difficult,” said Karua.
She said the President should have allowed MPs to deliberate on the matter before appointing the commissioners. Karua, was speaking when she addressed women who had sought her advice on the qualities they should look out for from leaders seeking elections.
Former MP Jayne Kihara who is eying the Nakuru county senator’s seat, was present.
She told the participants drawn from various political parties that if they wanted good leaders, they must acquaint themselves with the requirements of chapter six of the Constitution.
“Once you are aware of what chapter six spells out, you will then automatically be looking for a people’s servant, corrupt free, honest and sincere leader,” said Karua.
She said she fully agreed with the workshop’s resolution that elections be held in December.
“I want to stand by my position that as per the law, the MPs’ and the President’s terms end in December and we must have elections this year,” she said.
