A magistrate who had applied for promotion as a judge may have belatedly come to the realisation that he might not have what it takes to qualify for the job. The man arrived at the Judicial Service Commission ready for the interview. One of the panel members handed him a hefty file and asked him whether he was aware of its contents. After a short perusal of the document, the man stood up, excused himself from the interview room and never returned. He is now telling colleagues that he cannot survive the vetting which all judges and magistrates will have to undergo as part of the process of reforming the judiciary.

Yet another judge is in the crosshairs of a prominent city lawyer who has collected a dossier which he claims will definitely fail the judge in the ongoing vetting of judges and magistrates. The lawyer claims the judge wrote two parallel rulings which he signed on the same case and sold to the litigants!

Some ODM lawmakers were overheard complaining that Treasury had trimmed down the budget allocation to the Political Parties kitty from Sh2.8 billion to a mere Sh450 million. The MPs claimed the money allocated to ODM on the basis of its huge parliamentary numbers would have been Sh1.2 billion compared to Sh600 million for Prof George Saitoti's PNU.

Some of Prime Minister Raila's supporters are saying he and his wife Ida should be addressed with the honorific 'Dr' since they both have received honorary doctorate degrees. Bonchari MP Charles Onyancha is leading the bandwagon of ODM members demanding the word "Dr" is used in addressing the two. As if taking a cue from the ODM MPs, we are told that President Kibaki's and VP Kalonzo Musyoka's handlers also want their bosses referred to as "Dr" since they too have honorary doctorate degrees!
