  • But his deputy Mudavadi insists on change in nomination rules
Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Saturday said ODM was the only party that embraced internal democracy and asked its supporters to allow internal competition.
Speaking in Makadara constituency during Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa’s homecoming party, Mr Odinga challenged other presidential contenders in the coming elections to declare to Kenyans how they secured their nominations.
“I want them to tell Kenyans where and when they conducted their nominations before they start meddling in the affairs of other parties,” the Prime Minister said.
He also told off former Tourism minister Najib Balala for insinuating that he was a dictator. “Tulioana kwa furaha, tuwachane kwa furaha (we wed in happiness, let’s part without hard feelings)” Mr Odinga said
And, in Homa Bay, deputy party leader Musalia Mudavadi clashed with Immigration minister Otieno Kajwang on the mode of picking the party’s presidential candidate as he took his campaign to Mr Odinga’s Nyanza province stronghold.
The Deputy Prime Minister, who was accompanied by key allies Sports minister Paul Otuoma and assistant ministers George Khaniri and Calistus Mwatela, was given a hero’s welcome in Homa Bay.
While he and his allies were emphatic that there was nothing wrong in amending the party nomination rules, Mr Kajwang insisted that the nomination be conducted with the current party rules.
“There is need to amend the party constitution to open a window for democracy having agitated for democracy ,” he said.
The DPM stressed the need for party delegates to distinguish between nominations for party leader, presidential nomination and the national delegates congress.
