The Party of National Unity is now listed with the Registrar of Political Parties.
PNU became the eighth political grouping to be registered after party chairman George Saitoti on Monday received the certificate from Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung’u.
Speaking at the ceremony at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi, Prof Saitoti said PNU would embark on a countrywide recruitment drive.
Message of unity
“PNU is a national political party which draws membership from every corner of this country.
“Our aim is to unite Kenyans by consolidating peace through the cohesive co-existence of our people, which is the bedrock of development in this country,” Prof Saitoti said.
The Internal Security minister, who was flanked by former Starehe MP Maina Kamanda and other party officials, pledged to recruit members in accordance with the Political Parties Act.
“We want to spread a message of unity during the campaigns to ensure that the next General Election is held in an atmosphere of peace,” Prof Saitoti said.
“Our campaigns will be issue-oriented and we will not discuss personalities since we want a stable country,” he added.
Ms Ndung’u said her office was looking at several objections by some aggrieved parties over the use of symbols and names.
She, however, declined to identify the parties that had complained.
Three more political parties are expected to receive their certificates on Tuesday.
