The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) said Wednesday it was the only party with a national presence and exuded confidence it would form the next government.
ODM chairman Henry Kosgey said he was happy to be part of a mass movement that will capture power at the expiry of President Kibaki’s term.
"ODM will form the next government. This is a people’s party and a movement that is going to win the next General Election” said Mr Kosgey when his party received its certificate of full registration after complying with the requirements of the Political Parties Act.
The certificate was handed by the Acting Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung’u at her offices on Anniversary Towers, Nairobi.
Mr Kosgey, who is also the Tinderet MP, has been away from the public limelight. He was recently cleared by the International Criminal Court (ICC) of crimes against humanity arising out of the post election violence.
He challenged Kenyans to vote in leaders who are committed to the wellbeing of Kenya saying such leadership would only be found in ODM.
"Gone are the days when people fought for power just to satisfy their own needs and that of their family members. ODM is ready to provide the leadership that Kenyans have been waiting for many years," charged Mr Kosgey.
He maintained that Musalia Mudavadi was still the deputy ODM leader and he had not quit the party.
Assistant ministers Hassan Joho, Elizabeth Ongoro, Manson Nyamweya, Simeon Ogari and Alfred Khang’ati were present.
The brief ceremony was also witnessed by MPs Omondi Anyanga, Olago Aluoch and Ababu Namwamba.
Nairobi Mayor George Aladwa, ODM Executive Director Janet Ong’era, NEC Members, National Elections Board members and party members and supporters also attended.
Earlier, the Alliance Party of Kenya associated with a key presidential hopefuls also got full certification. a
The APK is associated with Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka and Internal Security minister Prof George Saitoti. The party was previously called PNU Alliance but Prof Saitoti’s associates in Party of National Unity have asked that it drops the acronym.
Ms Ndung'u also issued certificates to Kenya National Congress whose presidential aspirant is assistant minister Peter Kenneth, Party of Action led by former minister Raphael Tuju and President Kibaki’s former party, Democratic Party.
KNC’s certificate was picked by Mr Peter Kenneth while Mr Tuju, also a contender for the presidency picked the POA certificate. Former minister Joseph Munyao picked the certificate on behalf of DP which is the second oldest party after Kanu.
Energy minister Kiraitu Murungi led APK officials in picking the certificate.
All the parties expressed confidence that they would emerge victorious in the upcoming elections though DP and APK said that they would be forming alliances with other political parties.
Mr Murungi said the party would bring together all the presidential aspirants and they would nominate one of them to run for the presidency.
“We will bring Mr Musyoka, Mr Kenyatta and Prof Saitoti together and we will have them select one of their own to be the presidential candidate and all of us will follow him. This bus (the party symbol) has many seats and everyone is welcome,” Mr Murungi said.
Mr Munyao said that DP would field candidates in all elective posts other than the presidency adding that it would form alliances with other parties with same ideals to "ensure that the party is in the next government".
