Kenyans urged to use their voting rights wisely

The VP advised electorates not to gamble with their votes but to elect leaders who will ensure the country's resources are equitably utilized for the benefit of Kenyans
Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM), will continue to work closely with the G7group and other political parties in an effort to unite all Kenyans and offer suitable   leadership for the country   come the next general elections, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has said.
Mr. Musyoka said political parties under the G7 believe in ideologies of peace, poverty alleviation, one nation that Kenyans will be proud of to be citizens.
He appealed to Kenyans to use their voting rights wisely by electing responsible leaders who will steer the country's development   to high heights of prosperity and  uphold President Kibaki's legacy.
The Vice President made the remarks Sunday when he joined other faithful for a special thanksgiving day of harvest at the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Nerkwo Catholic Church in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The Mass that was celebrated by Assistant Bishop and Vicar General, Fr. William Kemboi  of Eldoret Diocese was held at St. Peter Marakwet  Boys High School Grounds.
Mr. Musyoka appealed to Kenyans to vote for him when the time comes for the general election, saying with his 27 years experience in the country's leadership and politics he has what it takes to lead the country.
He advised electorates not to gamble with their votes but to elect leaders who will ensure the country's   resources are equitably utilized for the benefit of Kenyans.
Mr. Musyoka assured that he will continue to promote peace and unity of all Kenyans  as he has always stood for in order for the country to effectively address developmental challenges that include poverty and unemployment.
The Vice President noted that with the new constitution, the country has great potential of developing to be a strong economy, particularly under the devolved system of government.
Mr. Musyoka  allayed fears of politicians on the provision of political parties Act that  prevent politicians from crossing over to other parties when they feel aggrieved by their former parties.
He said such   legislative provision can be amended in future   to give more freedom to aspirants including those candidates for county assemblies.
The Vice President exonerated the country's  freedom heroes from blame as reported in a section of the media, saying the independence leaders  that include Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Tom Mboya among others had great as vision for the country   and   did not intend any harm or  disservice  to the country.
Assistant Minister for Cooperative Development, Lina Chebii Kilimo who is also the Marakwet East   MP, dismissed opinion poll results rating the Vice President lower than other presidential aspirants and encouraged Mr. Musyoka to soldier own in his quest for the presidency, saying he has the necessary support.
" You have been belittled and ridiculed, I encourage you to  take courage and soldier own.  With close to 27 years in the country's politics, you have what it takes to lead this country." She added.
Kilimo said people in Elgeyo Marakwet County welcomes all aspirants for any elective position and will sample out the candidates  to enable them elect leaqders who will take care of their interests and development aspirations.
The area MP, Boaz Kaino, said people in the  Rift  Valley will elect leaders who will promote peace, noting that the region had been mistakenly be blamed for the 2007/8 post election violence.
Mr. Kaino said it was unfair to apportion blame to the region, noting that the spontaneous chaos happened in various parts of the country and that there was no orchestrated plan to trigger off the violence.
The legislator appealed to the government to ensure that the funds are set aside in the 2012/13 national  budget for the upgrading of Iten - Kapsowar road as promised by President Mwai Kibaki during his tour of the area.
Kitui West MP, Charles Nyamai, called on Kenyans to pray for the country as it approaches the next elections so that quality leaders would be elected to leadership positions and the elections   process is undertaken peacefully.
The occasion was also attended by several other dignitaries including former Cabinet Minister, Moses Akaranga, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Ludeki Chweya and Marakwet West District Commissioner, Mr. John Ondego.
The Vice President who is on his second-day tour of Rift Valley is expected to visit the Embobut IDP camp and later open the Marakwet west CDF office in Kapsowar.
