  • Vice-President says he has learned from Kibaki and is now ready to continue his works
Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka on Saturday said he is best suited to continue with President Kibaki’s policies since he had understudied the Head of State.
Mr Musyoka said that he would continue with the policies of the Kibaki administration should he be elected President in the next General Election.
“[President] Kibaki’s government has done a lot for this country. I have been the Vice-President so there is no need to look far for another person to continue with his good work. Being an election year we don’t want a repeat of what happened in 2007. We want to be peaceful,” he said.
The VP said that leaders needed to foster unity and cohesion for the betterment of the country and any leader who was opposed to this would ruin the country.
Addressing the public at the Ripples International Centre in Meru, the Mwingi North MP said that the new county governments would be a major boost to all the people because resources would be brought closer to the communities.
Mr Musyoka said that leaders should not be afraid to lose in politics and that they should believe that there is life after politics.
“The time has come to tell them the writing is on the wall. Kenya has changed, Kenya is moving forward and Kenya will never be intimidated by any leader because Kenya is bigger than all leaders put together,” he added.
Tigania East MP Peter Munya said that leaders have a responsibility to ensure that Kenyans lived peacefully.
Mr Munya said that Kenyans cannot allow self-seeking politicians to disturb the peace they enjoy, adding that the law should take its course in apprehending those politicians who make false allegations about their safety.
Alarming statements
“Communities don’t run for office but individuals do. We judge the leadership by judging the character of that particular individual. Those who make false and alarming statements should not mess the peace that we enjoy,” he said.
Imenti North MP Silas Muriuki urged the Vice-President to take the peace message in every corner of the country and asked politicians not take advantage of the Kenyan people for their own selfish gains.
“[VP] Kalonzo helped cool down the crisis during the 2007/2008 post-election violence period. Some politician want us to be divided so as to clinch power. They should emulate President Kibaki who talks less but he does a lot. Those are the people we want in leadership,’’ he said.
