Councillors arraigned in court over robbery with violence charges

By PATRICK KIBET
Two councillors of Nakuru County Council were arraigned in court over robbery with violence charges.
Ibrahim Kihigu and Daniel Kiriathi were charged together with six other suspects for robbing Joel Kingori of goods worth Sh3.3 million that were on transit to Kitale from Nairobi.
Others charged were Naashion Gakuo, an employee at Laikipa University College, Richard Nderitu, Peter Kamau, Daniel Miriithi, Moses Mwangi and Moses Ngungu.
They were also charged with violently threatening the owner of the goods.
The eight suspects appeared before Chief Magistrate Samuel Mungai and pleaded not guilty to another count of handling stolen goods in Nakuru County on April 4.
Samuel Wanaina pleaded not guilty of an additional charge of handling a stolen lorry registration number KAU 571G worth Sh2 million belonging to Wanjohi in Maili Sita in Nakuru.
Mungai directed that the accused be held at Njoro Police Station for police to finalise the investigation.
The case will come up for hearing next Tuesday. The councillors remained calm as the capital offence charges were read to them. Their supporters and family members thronged the court room as they were escorted to take plea under tight security.
The two and the other suspects were arrested by Subukia police after a dramatic chase.
