Corridors of Power

A senior lawyer realised just how murky politics is when he went to launch his campaign for Nyamira county. The man had hoped to convince the electorate without leaving them 'something small' as is the practise by majority of the politicians. His audience did not seem moved much when the man quoted the ethics and integrity clause in the constitution which bars politicians and also voters, from bribing or offering and or receiving cash inducements in exchange for votes.

Mutito MP Kiema Kilonzo has become a pariah of sorts following allegations by Finance assistant minister Oburu Odinga that the MP had attempted to extort money from Mastermind Tobacco. It seems the MPs are afraid of being 'tainted by the same tar brush' and have opted to keep their distance.

An ally of Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has declined an appointment as a research assistant at the Office of Vice President at Jogoo House. Reason? The man believes the position is too lowly and demeaning for someone of his age (he is 50 years old). He has turned down the job offer and told the OVP to give a younger person the opportunity!

The campaign bug has taken hold of Town Clerk Phillip Kisia who has been using every opportunity to seek support for himself in the forthcoming race for city governor. The most recent was on Tuesday when Kisia turned an official function where City Hall was being given an ISO 9001:2008 certificate into a platform to campaign for himself and Deputy prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi who was in attendance.
