VP takes campaign to Karua’s turf

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka starts countrywide tours to popularise his Wiper Democratic Party on Sunday as he prepares for a tough duel for the presidency in the coming General Election.
WDP director of operations Peterson Muthathai said the VP, who had a fragile relationship with his G7 Alliance colleagues before they ironed out their differences, will be in Kirinyaga County on Sunday for a two-day visit. (READ: Kalonzo faces challenge of winning back Mutula)
Mr Muthathai said the party leader will first attend a thanks-giving service at Kabare Bible College in Kirinyaga East before embarking on a meet-the-people tour in Kianyaga, Kiamutogo and Githure.
On Monday, Mr Musyoka will meet Kirinyaga County leaders at the Anglican Church of Kenya hall in Kutus. He will thereafter open party offices in the region and address a rally.
The VP will also conduct a meet-the-people tour of Kiridindi, Ngurubani, Muthithi and Makutano.
Kirinyaga County is the home of Narc-Kenya presidential aspirant Martha Karua who is Gichugu MP, acting Finance minister Njeru Githae (Ndia), and MPs Gachoki Gitari (Kirinyaga Central) and Peter Gitau (Mwea).
A number of other presidential aspirants have also been to Kirinyinga Central to seek support.
Planning, National Development and Vision 2030 assistant minister Peter Kenneth was in Kirinyaga last week where he urged Kenyans to vote for him for the presidency, citing his development record and “untainted” image.

Top on the agenda of Mr Musyoka’s tour in Kirinyaga will be coffee and rice farming, and youth employment and empowerment.
