Public Service minister Dalmas Otieno has said the country should go to the polls on December 17th this year as agreed on by the Cabinet. He said the announcement by the IEBC that the polls be held on March 4, next year was not realistic. Otieno said the IEBC failed to consult widely before announcing the March 4, 2013.
“The date by the IEBC was only to spur the country into a debate on the election date. If the date stands  the life of the current Parliament will be extended at the expense of the next one," he said. The minister was speaking in Migori town where he officially opened the new Sh9 million Red Cross office in the county. He asked the local to conduct elections in line with the provisions of the constitution especially on gender equity.
