Kibaki Arrives

President Mwai Kibaki arrived in South Africa on Thursday afternoon to attend the official opening of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The plane carrying the President and his entourage touched down at the WaterKloof Airforce Base shortly before 4.00pm local time.

On arrival, the Head of State was received by Kenya's ambassador to South Africa Amb. Tom Amollo and high ranking Kenyan and South African Government officials.

The President is Friday afternoon scheduled to attend the official opening ceremony of the 19th FIFA World Cup, which will be held at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.

After the opening ceremony, the President and other world Heads of State and Government will watch the inaugural soccer match between host South Africa and Mexico.

Among those accompanying the President are Cabinet Ministers Dalmas Otieno and Moses Wetang'ula, Assistant Minister for Sports Hon. Wavinya Ndeti, Head of Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet Amb. Francis Muthaura among other government officials.
