Corridors of Power

Just how Fred Rabongo made it to the board of the National Social Security Fund is a matter that is causing concern among some PNU ministers. Two of them told Corridors of Power that they did not understand why some people in ODM have been insisting that Rabongo become a member of the NSSF. Rabongo was previously nominated for appointment as the fund's CEO but his appointment was rejected by the board who accused Labour Minister John Munyes of disregarding its recommendations. Munyes recently dropped another board member Arthur Papa to make room for Rabongo.

Still on board appointments, we hear that someone has paid a cool Sh15 million to various individuals to ensure that he was appointed to one of the "lucrative" boards in the country. We are told the the man lobbied far and wide and left loads of cash with each person he met with and convinced to ensure they backed his appointment. It seems the 'cash persuasion' worked and the man was recently appointed chairman of the board. He has promised he will recover his 'investment' within a year!

A planned demonstration by staff of the National Housing Corporation over the audit report that has implicated the board, the MD James Ruthia and his senior managers was mysteriously called off at the last minute. It seems some of the staff members feel the audit report was not exhaustive as they claim it did not carry the name of all those guilty of misconduct. They want external investigators to audit the corporation and clear it of all irregularities once and for all.

Former Runyenjes MP Njeru Kathangu is one of a kind. Unlike other politicians, the man has stuck with his Ford Asili party through thick and thin. He was the only Ford-Asili MP between 1997 and 2002 and despite the party's poor performance since, he is still committed to ensuring the party flag flies high. A recent post on his Gacebook page indicated that he will be running for the Embu senate on the Ford Asili party ticket. “I would wish to remind those who hop from party to party that political parties are like manufacturing plants with conveyor belts whereby a row (sic) material is placed on one end and goes through the process till it is parked at the other end. When one moves from party, to party, to another, how and where do the ideas get processed?”
