All set for PNU Alliance polls

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 9 – The PNU Alliance party will hold its grassroots election between March 29 and April 7, its chairman Titus Ibui announced on Friday.
He said the polls will be held from the ward level, to the branch or constituency level and at the county level.
Speaking after a meeting of the Coordinating Committee, Ibui said that the elections will be conducted starting with the areas that will have concluded registration of members.
“We are going to conduct the election process in phases in those areas that will be ready,” he said.
Ibui said that board will be seeking assistance from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to either supervise the elections or assist in recruiting qualified election officers.
Party Executive Director Yussuf Aboubakar said that the party had already constituted its elections board which will be led by former LSK chairman Kenneth Akide among other individuals termed as ‘highly competent’.
Other members are Muthoni Gichomi (deputy chair), lawyers Riunga Raiji, Sultana Fadhil, Stephen Njiru, Kenneth Nzioka, Arthur Namu, Josephine Arasa and former IIEC commissioner Davis Chirchir.
PNU Alliance convener Kiraitu Murungi said that the party will revive its recruitment drive in Nanyuki on Saturday.
“Our party recruitment is going on very well; we hope we will present our papers to the registrar before end month. The bus is on the move and needs more passengers because it’s the bus that is going places,” said Murungi assuring that the party had already complied with the requirements of the Political Parties Act.
In its bid to avoid the current confusion created by similarities in the names with the Party of National Unity Embaksai MP Ferdinand Waititu said that the part will change its name with ratification of the National Delegates Congress.
Other MP’s who attended that meeting are Walter Nyambati, Johnston Muthama, Jamleck Kamau and Yusuf Hassan.
The PNU Alliance seeks to bring together leaders Uhuru Kenyatta of KANU, George Saitoti of PNU and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper Democratic Movement.
