There was drama in Naivasha when a woman stormed a wedding ceremony claiming she was married to the groom — a leading pastor in the town.
The spurned woman identified as Salome Wambui went to the church shouting that the groom was her husband and the bride her best friend.
The incident at Redeemed Gospel Church left visitors and area residents aghast. "She came making a lot of noise vowing that the wedding would not take place since they had been married for long and even had children together," a witness said.
And when the bridal party arrived, a fuming Wambui dashed to the main dais, where the groom and the bride were seated.
However, luck was not on her side as riot police officers arrived in time and saved the situation from degenerating into chaos.
The groom, on realising that things had fallen apart, swiftly moved his entourage to an unknown destination plunging the congregation and locals into more confusion.
But determined to scuttle the wedding, Wambui pursued the group and found them at Abundant Grace Church where more drama unfolded.
Behind her back
Speaking to the Press, Wambui claimed she had been married to the groom for 13 years and had been blessed with three children.
"I work in Nairobi and we have been visiting each other occasionally. We have never quarreled on any matter," she said.
A disturbed Wambui said ‘her husband’ recently visited her in Nairobi and she chanced on a wedding invitation card and realised that something was cooking behind her back.
She confronted the man and even held a meeting with the lead bishop of their church and was informed that the pastor (groom) had always claimed that the couple divorced two years ago.
"We have been together all this time and I never knew that he had planned a wedding with my best friend without my knowledge," the furious woman said.
