VP's house to cost taxpayers Sh200 million more

Taxpayers will part with an additional Sh200 million for the construction of the Vice-President’s official residence.

Parliamentary Accounts Committee Friday revealed that the Government would now spend Sh400 million in the construction of the palatial home up from the initial Sh200 million.
Speaking when the committee toured the site in the leafy Karen estate, Nairobi, Parliamentary Accounts Committee Chairman Boni Khalwale said the increase was due to the cancellation of the first contract and slow release of funds by the Exchequer.
Dr Khalwale said the first contractor abandoned the work midway after he deliberately made low quotations to win the contract. "Some contractors desperate to get jobs deliberately make low quotations to win contracts when indeed they cannot deliver," he said.
