Ruto on e-ticketing

  • Today I had discussions with Youth-led Narok county congress leadership on among many issues the introduction of e-ticketing for collection of revenue at the Mara. I fully support the modernization and digitization of fees collection as this will enhance both efficiency and accountability thereby giving value for money to the people of Narok county. I however share with the youth leaders their concerns over certain aspects of the contract signed between Narok council and Equity bank. Specifically I thank the young people for scrutinizing the details of the contract in any case it is said the devil resides in the detail. As a result of their intervention the matter is now being handled by a committee of parliament and I promise to lend my support in ensuring that public interest is not compromised. I took time to share my thoughts about the tremendous potential in tourism that can be harnessed to drive our economy and tackle unemployment. Just sample this statistics; France receives 72million tourists a year, London 30m,Malaysia 27m. Kenya, with a much more superior tourism product from the awesome sandy beaches our coast, the kilimanjaro & mt.Kenya, the magical game reserves complete with the wilder beast migration- billed to be the 7th wonder of the world, to the oldest fossil remains of mankind in the whole world in archaeological Turkana- making Kenya the only place on earth where we can say welcome home to visitors from anywhere on earth!! Awesome and magical isn't it! But only 1.5m tourists. Moreover statistics show that for every tourist visitor 3 people get employed. When we get our priorities right, expand our marketing budget, enhance security by having men and women prepared to march what they say with what they do, surely we will up our tourist numbers to 5m in 5 years. The economic activity this will generate is tremendous aside from over 5m new jobs for our young people. Believe me, Kusema na Kutenda is the way to go. Be blessed.
