A Nigerian man has been put in custody for repeatedly defiling a 15-year-old girl in Nairobi's Umoja estate. Sammy David Godpower was accused of dragging and assaulting the standard eight girl before defiling her. Yesterday, he appeared before a Makadara court and faced two counts of sexual offences.
The footballer failed to secure two Kenyan sureties with a cash bail of Sh200,000 after he denied the charges. He allegedly led the child to his bedroom in the night of February 2 and defiled her severally through the night before releasing her to go home in the dark. Initially, the girl was playing in the company of her cousins at their compound in Umoja. They decided to visit the neighbour's compound at 9pm in search of their friends when he invited them in his house.
Moments later, her cousins disappeared and as she tried to exit the house, the suspect grabbed her and led her to his room. He released her after a few hours and she slept by the gate through the night. The following morning, her uncle asked her where she had slept and she led him to the neighbour's house. They reported the matter to the chief and were escorted by the AP to arrest the suspect who was detained at the Buru Buru Police Station. If found guilty he could face life imprisonment. The girl was admitted at Nairobi Womens. The case will be heard on March 3.
