The burial ceremony of a top engineer failed to take place on Saturday after a woman claiming to be his wife served a court injunction.
Mourners who had arrived the home of Peter Mulei Muendi in Ngoto village Salama location in Makueni County were shocked on learning of the injuction.
A convoy of about 50 vehicles was turned back at Kyunmbi trading centre on the Machakos-Nairobi turn-off on learning that the cortege could not leave the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
Mulei, who was a director of Mullech Civil Engineering Limited, died on February 1 at the Nairobi Hospital.
An obituary placed in the Daily Nation on February 8 said he was married to Anne.
Among those who were forced to turn back with less than 50 kilometres to go was an editor with the Sunday Nation, Mr Fred Mutiso.
“Yes it true the burial has been stopped. News reached us as we were driving to the village that the Lee Funeral home management had been restrained by a court order from releasing the body,” Mr Mutiso said.
