Yesterday we told you of a top presidential aspirant whose concubine is among those who applied for a position at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). An MP from Western has sent a text to one of the panellists telling him of yet another applicant he claims is the girlfriend of yet another presidential contender. The MP claims he has on two different occasions found the man and his girlfriend at a popular hotel in town sharing an early morning breakfast. What remains to be seen now is whether the panel will act on the information.

There is a spirited push to take to the next level the debate about the controversial advert placed in newspapers by Trade minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere. The advert, a tribute to icon Wangari Maathai, occasioned intense public debate with commentators questioning when Mwakwere became "the overall Mijikenda leader" and whether this is part of his official title. His critics want the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission to investigate "abuse of office".

Some senior military officers were overheard discussing their colleague who is a famous athlete. The soldiers were peeved that the athlete gets a promotion every time he returns from one athletic meet. The officers said their colleague does not merit the promotions because he never bothers to understand or familiarise himself with the responsibilities and duties of the new rank.

Nigerian High Commissioner Dr Chijioke Wigwe who also doubles up as ambassador to Sweden is back on duty in Nairobi. Wigwe had been recalled home following allegations of a domestic nature made against him by his wife.
