Mutula suffers setback in Ombudsman sacking

Share/Save/Bookmark JUSTICE minister Mutula Kilonzo suffered a setback yesterday after a court reinstated the chief executive officer of Ombudsman office whom he had sacked last week.
Kenneth Mwige, who had been fired, via a memo addressed to his chairman Peter Simani and copied to him by director of administration in the Ministry of Justice David Mutemi, will keep his position until the matter is heard and determined by the court. Justice Daniel Musinga issued the stay orders last week after Mwige moved to court citing alleged violation of his constitutional rights in the dismissal which Mutemi said had been decided by the minister. “I am writing this memo to convey the decision of the Hon.
Minister that following the litigation in court on the appointment of Executive Director, Public Complaints Standing Committee Mr. Kenneth Mwige should vacate office of the executive director, the Public Complaints Standing Committee  with immediate effect,” the memo from Mutemi read.
It asked Simani to ensure that Mwige hands over any government property in his possession. The letter was copied to Mwige for “information and action immediately”. In response, Simani wrote to Mwige and instructed him to handover to his deputy Edwin Muruka. Mwige went to court and last week obtained the stay orders against both memos. The case will be heard on Thursday next week.
