Kenyan star Mugabe cleared to join Scottish side Celtic

GLASGOW
Kenyan midfielder Victor Mugabe ‘Mugubi’ Wanyama is expected to complete a move to Celtic after being given the go-ahead by the Scottish Football Association.
It has cleared the way for the 20-year-old to play in Scotland, after an appeal hearing was held yesterday.

He will now have a work permit finalised by the UK Border Agency before the deal is official.
Neil Lennon’s third summer signing will make the switch from Belgian club Germinal Beerschot.
The Celtic manager was able to plead Wanyama’s case via a conference call from Australia, where the first-team squad are on a pre-season tour.
The Kenyan’s work permit application was initially automatically refused because the African country is ranked outside the top 75 in the world — at 130 on Fifa’s latest list.
Following the hearing, Wanyama attended Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow for a medical.
Lennon last week stated that Wanyama, who can play in midfield, had been signed predominately as a central defender.
Wanyama first moved to Europe from his native Kenya when he joined Swedish club Helsingborg in 2007.
He moved on to Germinal the following year and has been capped 11 times — including all six of Kenya’s World Cup 2010 qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Tanzania’s Yanga will meet rivals Simba in the Cecafa Club championships final tomorrow, writes James Waindi in Dar es Salaam.
Yanga booked the slot in final yesterday after beating Ethiopia’s St Georges 5-4 on post match penalties.
Both teams played out a barren draw in regulation and extra time hence the need for penalties to separate them.
Simba had also booked a finals slot after eliminating Sudanese champions El Merreikh.
