The former head of Africa Independent Church of Africa (AIPCA), Archbishop Samson Mwangi Gaitho is dead.
Archbishop Gaitho died early Wednesday morning just two weeks after voluntarily stepping down from his position citing ill health.
In his consolation message, President Mwai Kibaki said Archbishop Gaitho "will be remembered for his selfless service to the nation, church and its flock."
He added, "The demise of the late Archbishop Gaitho will not only leave a void in the lives of his family but also in the hearts of the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa faithful and all those who knew him.”
During his 12 years service at the helm of AIPCA, Archbishop Gaitho initiated many development projects including the AIPCA Theological
College in Kamulu which he envisioned to develop to become a fully fledged university.
The late Archbishop is also credited for initiating the transfer of bishops across various dioceses in the country so as to inject vibrancy in the Church.
President Kibaki noted that Archbishop Gaitho served the country in various capacities including his frontline role in the reform process.
Archbishop Gaitho actively participated in the Interfaith Ufungamano initiative during the agitation for a new Constitution.
He also served as a councillor in the Nairobi City Council.
