Corridors of Power

Share/Save/Bookmark Information Secretary Ezekiel Mutua has not resigned from office. Details emerging indicate that the ex-Director of Information was unhappy that he was being moved from his 'airy and spacious' Jogoo House office to the less resplendent Teleposta House. Mutua  was also reportedly unhappy with promotion, his job description, duties and responsibilities which he says had nothing to do with those stipulated for the office of the Information Secretary as defined by the Public Service Commission. One of his duties, according to the appointment letter signed by PS Bitange Ndemo, was for Mutua to organize film and TV awards, develop a code of conduct for the film industry; work with the Office of the President on firearm licences for hiring, importation, and use of firearms as props in filming; work with the Immigration ministry on work permits and fees for film makers, etc. Mutua is said to have described the new responsibilities as "bizarre" and completely irrelevant to his training and profession and hence his hasty decision to quit.

A PNU minister has teamed up with a former Cabinet minister to establish a new radio station which will be used to enhance their visibility in the 2012 election campaigns. The former minister who was thoroughly beaten in the 2007 parliamentary elections has set his sights on the senate while his colleague is going all out to defend his parliamentary seat.

Francis Ole Kaparo's political comeback is reportedly being motivated by his (unstated) desire to hit back at Prime Minister Raila Odinga whom he blames for blocking his return as the Speaker of the National Assembly. Raila openly backed current Speaker and Emuhaya MP Kenneth Marende who was the ODM candidate while Kaparo was being fronted by the PNU. Kaparo is allying himself with Eldoret North MP William Ruto and speculation has been growing that he is being considered as a compromise candidate for the G7 alliance.

Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta has been pushing up the numbers of friends on the social network Facebook. A post on his website is asking any of the 80,000 people who have registered as 'friends' to push their number to 100,000. The reward? A personal meeting between Uhuru and the 100,000 friend and the person who introduces the 'friend' !
