Speculation is rife that someone or some people had tampered with the candidates shortlisted for the position of CEO of the Railways Pension Scheme. The firm contracted by the board to carry out the selection reportedly ranked the current acting CEO Caroline Nyoro at the top of the list. However, someone or some people within the board have reportedly altered the shortlist to indicate Nyoro as ranking fifth. A member of the board unhappy with the changes say it is being done in favour of someone who did not apply for the job but who has close links with some of the board members.

Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth's declaration that he will join the presidential race seems to have destabilised some individuals in PNU. Seems that Ezekiel Mutua's recent promotion from director of information to information secretary meant a reduction in the power he wielded. Our moles tell us that while he was director, Mutua had the authority to incur expenditure on behalf of the KNA and other sections in the department. As Information secretary, Mutua not only moves from Jogoo House to Teleposta House buy also loses this authority, hands over a brand new vehicle bought for the office he is leaving and worst of all, had to hand over to one of his juniors. The man was so incensed by the decision that he called a press conference to announce his resignation and to give reasons for the same. By the time of the 2 pm press conference, it seems Mutua had reconsidered his decision and cancelled the press conference without as much as an explanation. What is not clear is whether he had actually tendered his resignation by the time he was calling the press conference.

A senior government official who travelled to Juba for today's independence celebrations had a rough welcome when he was mugged moments on arrival. The man took a taxi whose driver drove to an area known to be insecure. The man was mugged and robbed of all his valuables. Despite his harrowing experience, the man was unharmed and was depending on the Kenya consulate to take care of his accommodation and upkeep for the duration of his stay.
