NAIROBI, Kenya, April 12- Gor Mahia have landed the most lucrative sponsorship deal in the country’s club football history with the 12-time domestic league champions on the verge of signing a Kshs 40 million contract with Spin Knit Dairy. The agreement that runs for two years will see the club affectionately referred to as K’Ogalo by its faithful receive cash and playing kit branded in the company’s Tuzo brand SuperSport.com reported Tuesday. Both parties will sign the landmark deal Wednesday morning at Nairobi hotel marking the first time in the club has engaged in such an agreement in its loaded history that stretches from its formation in 1968. Spin Knit is a subsidiary of Brookeside Limited which sponsors another Kenyan Premiership side Thika United. Gor Mahia have proven to be Kenya Premier League top attraction over the last two seasons when the club’s results mirrored their glory days in the 80s and early 90s, bringing back their multitude of fans trooping back to the stadium. This in turn has raised the commercial value of the team that last lifted the domestic crown in 1995 and negotiations for the bumper deal are said to have taken a huge chunk of three months. It was initially set to be announced in mid February before both parties returned to the negotiating table as commercial rights took centre stage. Last season, Gor finished runner-ups to Ulinzi Stars after a storming second half run that saw them finish four points adrift. The revival took off in earnest in the latter stages of the 2009 season when K’Ogalo moved up the table to finish fifth after veteran coach, James Sianga, introduced a fresh look squad of young players. Harambee Stars coach, Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno who led Gor to second is now in charge of the club.
