An Open Letter to the Kenya political class

E-mail Print PDF
Share/Save/Bookmark Mr President, The Rt Hon Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, Hon William Ruto and all your henchmen and sycophantic MPs followers.
From the onset, let it be known to all that Kenya belongs to none of you and for that we, the people of Kenya, cannot sit and watch you drag us to the status of a failed state.
The ICC issue and process has brought out the true colors of our politicians—from the mute President who even when the credibility of his nation is put to the test decides to maintain his silence—to the Prime Minister who shifts goal posts to claim political mileage.
Most of all, the ICC has shown us how ‘immature’ the “youthful” leaders can be, hurling childish insults at others. Then there is the inconsequential errand boy who’s totally embarrassed the nation in his shuttle diplomatic endeavors to nowhere. Sadly, these are the leaders we have entrusted our nation to.
Do not be deceived in your minds even for a second, that we the people of Kenya will sit back and watch you drag our nation into a failed state. Do not be deceived that you can insult the intelligence of Kenya and make us shed innocent blood as we did in 2007/8. Then the fight was between the Kalenjin and the Kikuyu. Now you want to make it Kalenjin and Kikuyu versus Luo. Who do you take Kenyans for? Fools? Let not your selfish political interests and the protection offered by your ‘wealth’ blind you to the fact that Kenyans are not puppets to sing to your tune and blindly follow you. We have walked on this path before and we are wiser now.
Seeing you all join us as we promulgated the new constitution at Uhuru Park on August 27 2010 should have signified that it was the start of a new dawn for both the leaders and the led. Instead, it seems to have made you worse.
Since then, you have become petty, childish, ignorant, detached and indifferent to the plight of the average Kenyans. You have become consumed by selfish and trivial tribal greed, wanting to protect the interest of your community at whatever cost.Guess what? You are on the wrong side of history. We are wiser, we know what we want for this nation and you will not stand in the way of us getting it.
The legacy of the economic turnabout and infrastructural improvement that you Mr President can boast of are nothing if you leave a people who at a flash can turn on each other. I wish you all the best when you retire.
Mr. Prime Minister sir, you have yearned for it, you have fought for it and now you may be halfway there. Do not let greed overcome you as you draw close to the doorstep. Remember, it takes a hundred days to build a reputation and a single sentence to spoil it.
For the ‘Young Turks’ — Uhuru and Ruto— you have shown the true colors of what it means to never let young people lead. Stop the confusion, petty insults, and unwarranted trading of accusations. Style up. Behave like people who want to be taken serious, maybe we will (!?)
As for the guy who crisscrosses between all of you, continue making room for his theatrics, at least he brings comedy to the political scene.
To all your sycophantic MPs, worry not, 70 per cent or more of you will see Parliament courtesy of the electorate come 2012. We, the people of Kenya, refuse to be used for political mileage and protection of tribal interest. We refuse to be deceived.
