Lovers' fight leaves Kenyan woman dead in US

A Kenyan woman has been killed in Florida, US after a fight with her boyfriend.

Police in Orlando, Florida told US media that Ruth Owino, 34 years, had tried to break off her engagement to a man from Burundi when a fight ensued.

She left Kenya for the US five years ago. (READ ALSO: Police: Man used hand weight to bludgeon fiancée)

The boyfriend, Nestor Habarugira, 41 years, was charged on Sunday with the murder.

A dispatch from the Associated Press quoted police officers saying that the couple were arguing about ending their relationship when Owino threw a weight at him.

There are reports Habarugira has admitted hitting Owino.
