Spokesman Munyori Buku said Mr Kenyatta, who is also the Finance Minister, planned to meet various groups in his quest for support in 2012.
Mr Buku said the DPM would next meet women’s groups. He consulted with Kikuyu elders in Nakuru County on Wednesday.
“He will also meet the youth, professionals, farmers, small-scale businesspeople and people with special needs, among others,” said the spokesman.
The Wednesday meeting is said to have centred on the community’s plans ahead of the 2012 General Election.
“We resolved to front Mr Kenyatta as our spokesman and presidential candidate in next year’s general election,” a source who attended said.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of Mr Kenyatta’s bid being frustrated by the pending case at The Hague.
He is, however, said to have told the elders that central Kenya had capable leaders who could take over the mantle irrespective of the outcome of the International Criminal Court ruling.
The closed-door meeting was attended by MPs Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru Town), John Mututho (Naivasha), Mwangi Kiunjuri (Laikipia East), Nderitu Mureithi (Laikipia West), Joseph Kiuna (Molo) and Nelson Gaichuhie (Subukia).
