Ruto dismisses ‘dog oath’ claims in post-poll chaos

Eldoret North MP William Ruto has dismissed claims that dogs were slaughtered for oathing purposes in Kipkelion during the post-election violence.

Mr Ruto said claims forwarded to International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor to the effect that he led in the slaughter of dogs for oathing were among “wild allegations” by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).
He said: “Mmesikia porojo yenye imeandikiwa ICC. Hati mimi nilisimamia kuchinja mbwa hapa Kipkelion. (You have heard rumours forwarded to the ICC that I supervised the slaughter of dogs for oathing purposes here in Kipkelion)”.
The KNCHR and Justice Philip Waki reports on post-election violence allegedly indicate that about 300 dogs were slaughtered for oathing purposes in Kericho.
Mr Ruto, who was accompanied by several MPs including Saboti legislator Eugene Wamalwa said: “It was for fear of such false claims that we fought for the post-election violence cases to be taken to the ICC.”
He was speaking during the funeral of Mrs Anna Chumo in Chepseon, Kipkelion district. She was the wife of councillor John Chumo.
Meanwhile, Mr Ruto urged residents to join UDM as it was the party they had identified.
