The Kenya Police website, www.kenyapolice.go.ke has been down for the second day running after hackers defaced the site on Monday.
Officials from the e-government and Ministry of Information have been involved in investigation into the hacking.
On Wednesday, authorities said they believe the two departments can track and address the problem.
Commissioner of Police Mathew Iteere told The Standard they were aware of the problem and relevant authorities were addressing it.
"Even though that problem is common this time round the hacker seems to have gone far, but we have involved the e-government and Ministry of Information to address it," he said.
An unidentified hacker cracked into the website and posted some graffiti. The home page site now reads "Got in and all I could think about was Zuckerberg!!! This’ for you Mark!".
The website’s title tag also has a vulgar "I’m CEO bitch" — words appearing on Facebook’s co-founder Mark Zuckerberg’s first business card, according to a movie and book about the social networking website.
At times, the site failed to open but only the main page seemed defaced with the rest of it remaining functional.
Internet securityThe www.kenyapolice.go.ke has various information including the names and pictures of wanted persons, police commanders and important public documents that the Force provides free of charge and at a fee.
Internet security experts say the nature of development of the site or the server hosting the site may have left it vulnerable.
The attack and subsequent crippling of the website of one of Kenya’s top security organs brings to fore the issue of Internet security in the country.
Information PS Bitange Ndemo said the website had been hosted on a platform that was vulnerable to attacks, adding that the ministry was planning to host all government information on one secure platform.
