Top politicians set sights on new jobs

Prominent leaders have shown interest in the posts of senators and governors in the North Rift.

In Bungoma County, Ford-Kenya chairman Musikari Kombo has declared his interest in the senator’s job.

Foreign Affairs minister Moses Wetang’ula, who had been mentioned in relation to the senatorial seat, said he was gunning for president.

“I will go for nothing short of the presidency,” he said.

Assistant minister in the office of the Prime Minister Alfred Khang’ati is reportedly eyeing the senate.

Former Trade and Industry minister Mukhisa Kituyi, Kimilili MP Eseli Simiyu, US university don Juma Mukhwana and Ford-K elections board chairman Wabwoba Walinywa have been linked to the governorship.

In Uasin Gishu, the post is reportedly reserved for Higher Education minister William Ruto if he does not take a shot at the presidency.

Lawyer Katwa Kigen, Eldoret North Constituency Development Fund chairman Isaac Maiyo and Philip Matelong are being touted as possible governors.

Industrialisation minister Henry Kosgey, former deputy speaker Samuel Ngeny and former MP John Sambu are said to be eying the senate seat in Nandi County.

Those eyeing the governorhip are Prof David Some, Prof Philip Letting, Prof Cleopas Lagat, Dr Barnabas Chelule, Dr Mathew Bett, Central Provincial Commissioner Philip Rugut and Jacob Bitok.

Forestry and Wildlife minister Noah Wekesa and Former Agriculture minister Kipruto Kirwa are said to be planning to represent Trans Nzoia in the senate.

Communication minister Samuel Pogishio and Kapenguria MP Julius Murgor are said to be ready to fight for the senate seat.

In Baringo, former Baringo Central MP Gideon Moi and Simon Chelugui are reportedly eyeing the senate.

In Elgeyo/Marakwet, Nicholas Biwott had reportedly set his sights on the senate.
